Kanazawa – second “Kyoto”: travel

Turning to travel agencies or the Internet, we get options for traveling around Japan in Tokyo or Kyoto.

In today’s article we will talk about a city that is equally unique, original and worth your attention. If you want to see something new, we recommend heading to Kanazawa, which is located in Ishikawa Prefecture in western Japan.

This is a place that has not been damaged by wars in the past. Even today, many people think of this city as the homeland of samurai and geisha.

Well, it’s easy to come across a geisha walking along the narrow ancient streets here. Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, is the proud owner of one of Japan’s three famous parks, along with Kairaku in Mito and Koraku in Okayama. For a symbolic 310 yen, Kenroku Garden will enchant both Japanese and foreign tourists with a tea house in the middle of the lake, Japanese bridges, colorful carp, green tea, seasonal events and a constantly changing appearance in accordance with the seasons.

In addition, this garden is the cultural and historical heritage of the city with artificially raised hills and interconnected ponds. Its beauty and grandeur are further emphasized by the fact that it is here that you can hear the murmur of fountains and streams and admire the ancient stone lanterns.

After a walk through Kenroku Park, it is interesting to stop by the old quarter or Kazuemachi-chaiya for lunch and coffee. You might even be lucky if you get into conversation with the owner of the cafe. He may turn out to be the great-grandson of a geisha and will show you an ancient shamisen – a three-stringed lute that she inherited.

But not everything in Kanazawa is steeped in history. If you come in summer, do not deny yourself the pleasure of trying gold ice cream.

And then go to the Museum of Contemporary Art of the 21st Century.
