~Stone warehouses line the canal with the smell of the sea breeze~
Let’s walk along the canal promenade dotted with gas lamps.Construction of this port facility began in 1914 and was completed in 1923. It was built during Otaru’s heyday when it was booming, and barges used to come and go between the main ship anchored at Otaru Port and the canal to handle cargo. After its role as a canal ended, it was renovated into its current form in 1986. The area along the waterfront line was reclaimed to a width of 20m, and a stone-paved walking path was created. The most crowded area with tourists is Asakusabashi Town Garden, located at the foot of Asakusabashi Bridge. From here, you can see the familiar scenery that is featured in tourist brochures.

~Sakaimachi Hondori Street~
A street approximately 1,300 meters long that extends from the fairy tale intersection where the Otaru Music Box Museum Main Building is located toward Chuo Dori. There are many unique shops selling souvenirs, and the area is crowded with tourists.
There are also many restaurants such as sushi restaurants, so it would be a good idea to enjoy your meal here while looking out at the cityscape.
